My boss had a unit meeting, I was not present due to being out on disability. At the meeting one of my co-workers asked when I would be returning to work. My boss stated "don't bring that name up again" (meaning my name). The boss then explained to the group my personal voice mail I had left her, after I received a letter from her regarding my disability on my return to work date.
I would like to know how to proceed with this situation. I feel she was out of line and unprofessional . And would like to request a new unit boss after this totally acceptable behavior. Thank your for any advise.

I was hired as a Medical Secretary II in a hospital to work for a female breast surgeon.In addition was asked to do vital as a favor I thought it was temporary. but it lasted 2 yrs.When they hired a nurse practitioner I stopped doing vitals since no one I approached wanted to compensate me for it. When the nurse went on vacation 2 wks after starting the new job.The surgeon expected me to continue doing vitals for her I refused and that is where the retaliation and that when bad working conditions became worse. I was being accused of filing pathology reports into the wrong patients chart when that was the nurses job pathology reports. I was verbally attacked the hallway unable to defend myself from the surgeon I tried to explain that I am not the only one who files in the office why don't you call a meeting to discuss any issues she continue to accuse me and so I quit. When I called the supervisor regarding the incident she told me that I was taking things too personal.In two years of working w/o a nurse I never has any problems with misfiled reports & they were many times when I had to correct many mistakes that the nurse made and she would even come to me to help her cover up big bloopers.

my boss in deceptive and cunning in her own eyes however, any smart employees can see through this. She is labeled a "corporate puppet" and she has managed to undermine the VP (she is a manager) by convincing higher management that she is the brains behind what her mentor (the VP) has taught her-any advice

After the 3 years bit (wish I could have seen my face) I was shown around and after 5 minutes was looking for the cameras. With no sign on the door and 3 green kids, asking silly questions, I thought for sure I was on candid camera or similar. This was at Civil Engineering Co. Again I am not kidding

She acted very nice uses me to get herelf to the top and in the good eyes of the CEO. Now she thinks that I should go. I might as well quit and find a better boss.

I work in an assisted living facility which is really a full blown nursing home..The managers get bonuses when they save money so they use and abuse their employees, work us two out of three shifts and expect us to be on call 24 - 7 call us in the middle of the night give us no respect, then they wonder why we burn out and quit... I stay only because I have promised the families of the 14 alzheimer patients I take care of I would not quit. Corporate came on sight and when I mentioned the calling he said you have two choices, get caller ID or unplug your phone, and I said we already do that. I feel they could call agency but it must come out of their bonus money so they would rather overwork us underlings. We get $2.50 movie tickets for just showing up on the week ends its a joke cause its movies you would not go and see at a place you would not be caught dead in. We have lots of problems where I work from having poor management...

My boss calls himself the IT Manager even though he doesn't know how to install a hard drive, crimp and RJ45 or the difference between a hub and a router. Or what they even look like for that matter. We're a fortune 500 company with defense dept. ties.

My boss and I work in different buildings. When I drop off correspondence for review and signature, it takes up to two weeks to get it back. I realize she's very busy, but I can't get on with my work unless she returns it quickly. How can I get her to return the correspondence in a timely fashion?

My comment is that it's a shame how becoming a manager really blows up certain persons' heads. I think they're not entirely secure to begin with. I have seen many move to management positions and the change/which is expected due to increase in authority etc/ is minimal.
However, others, are groomed and wined and dined and essentially turn into monsters right in front of their staff's eyes. It's no wonder staff under these types of manager's hate to see is happen, because watching the dreadfull transformation is painful. The end result is usually smart ones leave, or if you stick it out you learn to role with the punches, unless you specifically become the only punching bag. How can corporate culture be so incredibly dumb when it comes to these types of managers. They're obviously masters of manipulation-but rest assured everyone out there struggling, what comes around will eventually go around!

Bosses should be leading rather than shouting when there are problems in the office and brave enough to say sorry when they made mistake. Bosses must play the roles as mentor and coach to their subordinates. Bosses should treat their staff fair and equally regardless of their race, creed or gender. And they must stay calm and wise in normal or turbulence time. It is surprising to see bosses not adopting these critical traits in the millenium era.

I'm only a team leader, but I have all the responsibilities of the head boss. My problem is that the ones I lead are jealous of me, even though I care about them. For every paranoid boss you have a paranoid employee. It can be just as frustrating for a leader. Between the lack of consideration from my superiors and the abuse from my co-workers, this job isn't worth the stress, certainly not the pay. I truly wish I could quit.

I was promoted to Department Supervisor three months prior (no training whatsoever), due to the forced resignation of my previous manager. One manager in particular seems hell bent on making life difficult, not only for me, but for my employees. He headhunts employees for dismissal, but instead of just firing them, makes work life impossible. For every positive thing he says.. there's a hundred negative. He's motto is 'I'm never happy, I'll definitely tell you what's wrong'.
how do i deal with a bully for a boss?
The company I work for has serious organisation and planning issues, it always falls back on us working on the floor. I've tried telling them what we need as supervisors to do our jobs properly, yet its dismissed every time, I'm just fed up now, no point working over 40 hours a week just to fail them every time.

My boss did everything she could to get rid of me. Anything and everything that went wrong in the office was blamed on me, even if I had nothing to do with it. When she trumped up some more accusations and got the big bosses to come in and do her dirty work and fire me, she then called me in her office and said, "I want a hug." She is still waiting for it!
PS -- My coworker says now that I have gone on to greener pastures (yes, I landed on my feet!), the big bosses now realize who was really causing the problem. I'm told that my former boss is now "a little red blip on their radar screen" and will likely get fired any day now. Yes, there is a God in heaven!

I worked in an area where I excelled (middle management) until the day a new boss arrived and that was the end of me.Made redundant and had a nervous break down after two years of belittlement by her and the gang of 6 she organised. However i understand that life is now catching up with her. Great!

my boss is a gread example of arrogance, ruthless, manupilative...and weird thing is I miss took him for a simple, straightforward guy. He's an Ass...Three years of working with him and he tells me in front of everyone that i am a 'Tough-case' whereas praises people who joined the lab pretty recently..he has not even seen their work...My problem was i kept quite for 3 years and now if i give it back he cannot take it...he is a big fat looser...3 good employees already left for another job and next would be me...already in the process...life is too short to spend with such a barberic person...

My boss nearly drove me crazy for 5 years. I developed high blood pressure and then had to have major surgery. I know she made me sick and nearly killed me. I was in counseling for almost a year. I have learned that it doesn't pay to cross her. I just go along and smile and do whatever she says... and when she's not looking I do the things I need to do to get my work done. She is a pathetic little snit but in her own eyes she keeps the organization together. I have developed the wisdom to secretly acknowledge to myself that she is an "its all about me" idiot. She doesn't bother me, hardly ever get to me, so she has moved on and found others to attack. Warning: one of her former subordinates committed suicide. If you can't get help, get out!

My team leader doesn't do the "work" she is supposed to and our "manager" controls 2 departments. There seems to be lack of communication between them.
I'm not valued as an employee and feel that my hard work isn't recognized. I think it's time for me to move on and find better people to work for.

Last January, during my 7th month working as store manager for a medium sized cell phone carrier, my boss humiliated me in front my management peers during a meeting by reading aloud from a handout that stated that I was to be replaced. He covered his you-know-what during a break by telling me that was not to be in the preseantation or accompanying handout and that a transfer to another store was what was supposed to be in them. He put me on PiP in April and fired me in May for performance even though I had turned the store around in less than a year. In essence, the decision to fire me was made four months before the PiP was issued. I should have quit in January.

my boss is lovely. Its the manager i have a problem with.i amd the youngest person in this workplace as im only 16 and this is my first full time job, she is 30 something and she hits me when she wants something, and her behaviour is very unprofessional for a manager as she bitches about every 1 behing theyre backs. she makes me feel very awkward and treats me like a dog. she is always cutting me dirty looks and making and trying to make me feel stupid. she is really using me and taking me for granted. she has already said to me wen i started the job that she could make my life hell.i think she is discriminating me bcause of my age. Other workers have seen how she treats me and they dont like it. i want to do something about her, as other people have left because of her.but im stronger than them and i want to put an end to her bullying. can anyone tell me what i can do? thanks x

What do you do when almost everyone leaves every few years because of the boss? She's great at managing resources, but she's kind of strange and doesn't know how to relate to people. I think she's a good person, it's just that she's, well, strange. She's just not professional, blames, criticizes, and reprimands us in front of each other. We all try so hard, but it's like we are set up to fail, she doesn't enable our success. She has worked here over 20 years, but we doubt she will retire, as this job is her life, she has no family, no interests much outside the job. It's not that we want her to leave, just want her to be more understanding, patient, and encouraging, instead of putting us down, though she doesn't yell or act really angry, it's just she blames us for everything. She forgets, too, and changes the rules, sometimes forgets what she's changed them to, and we get the blame. She puts off decisions, is sometimes argumentative in meetings, yet won't tell us what she wants us to do--kind of jerks us around. We love our jobs, but sometimes it's hell around here, just because of the way she is. Got any suggestions?

I worked in a retirement home. I worked in the kitchen. I was the only girl, working as a cook. When they hired a new kitchen manager, I was told by him, that he would be rid of me, no women in HIS kitchen. Well, it got worse. I was constantly harrassed, verbally assulted, was told in the manner, he was better than me, I was F stupid. You do not know how to do nothing right. When I told the dietary manager, who did not want to deal with it and did not care.; She informed him of the disability I have, because he told me. He would run me into the ground. Stand in my way if I was walking, yell at me. Play music CDs that contain vulgar music, degradeing of women, when I complained nothing was done was told that is the way he was trained and that is the way it will be. He cussed at me and say what are you going to do??? Tell, they will not believe you, because you are a liar.

I've been an employee with an huge financial company for less than two years. I have a manager who not only doesn't know how to talk to anyone the right way, she even has me move from my desk so that an employee from another department who is about to be layed off in a few months. The problem I need to access my main desk from time to time to have my desk computer updated from time to time.
I think my manager is taking advantage of me because I am a part time employee and need a job. In my perception I think she is abusiving her title to intimidate me and to take away my desk.

My boss is trying to get rid of me. I've been where I am now for 24 years. She is setting me up to fail as we go into a new database. she gives me unclear instructions and no guidance at all on what she wants me to do. Then criticizes me when I do what she wants. If I do what I think is right, she criticizes me. I can't win. I'm dammed if I do and even if i don't. I am applying for other positions in the company. I have lots of support. But I am a mid life, single women with a mortgage. My yearly reviews have been excellent till this year. Many people have left our department because of her micro-mgmt. and bullying. I have sought help from a therapist, EAP and HR. They want me to have a mediation. I just don't want to do the confrontation thing. I pray I can find another position soon. I've felt put down for so long now, but have recently been told - latest by an interviewer, that my resume does not do me justice. I am re-writing my resume, upgrading my computer skills and applying for everything that comes up in my company. I know the mediation is coming soon too. I am a spiritual person and have asked the Great Spirit for assistance. I feel I'm being asked to jump off a cliff - to have faith. Oh God, please catch me. Keep me safe. I have survived childhood rape, lonliness, cancer and now this!
God help us all. Give us guidance, patience, confidence and protection from those who would harm us.

My boss was extremely nice to me for the first year that he had his job, and I taught him everything about what to do. I would go to meetings with him and tell him what to say. I would write emails for him to send. I loved my job and was happy to help. Now he does not need me anymore and he is constantly criticizing everything I do and every word I say. He told me never to use the word "want" in meetings, and never to use the word "silly" in the office. He took all of my responsibilities and gave them to other people. When I tried to talk to him, he said that I still had too many responsibilities. Even when he is on vacation he reads emails that I have to write for my work and criticizes what I say. Some days I have nothing to do all day. I don't want to be paranoid but sometimes I think he might not have good intentions. It is a large corporation so he will have to build a case against me in order to fire me, unlike small company where no one else has to approve. I feel very bad about myself that I am so naive and trusting when I should know better. No one else helped him when he started. If I had not been so generous then he would not know what to do, and I would not be in this situation.

My boss is the devil. She has been with the company for 20 years. My father-in-law owns the company. Since he hired me in as his accountant 18 months ago, she has been nothing but cold to me. She would find any mistake I made and email it to all of the higher-ups so they were aware of it. I guess there have 7 people that have held my position before me in those 20 years. All 7 of them have cited that my boss was the reason why they left. Everyone in my office hates to deal with her. The thing that stinks is that she knows her stuff. Since I don't fail at individual tasks, she has loaded me up with more takss than the rest of my department combined (no joke). So what can I do? I don't want to run to my father-in-law ang whine. She needs to go for the company's sake. HELP!!!

These are all too depressing. My comment is for the people leaving these "I have a bad boss" comments...
Life is too short to complain about these types of things. Either get out, or suffer... but don't make everyone else suffer with you. Take control of your career and change yourself so that you can change your situation.
