Dr. Elgin's work is the most practical and useful of the many communication books dealing with verbal abuse in relationships, work and life in general. All of her work is grounded in the reality of how language works and the importance it has in determining how we perceive and live our lives. Her gift and calling is to provide the average reader with the basics understanding and skills to stop verbal abuse without making things worse. Don't rush through her work. Do the simple suggested exercises and you will learn how to use your natural ability to use and understand language to understand the kind of attack you are under, the underlying motive of the attack, and the best way to render it harmless without of loss of face on either side. That is a powerful claim and if you follow her system and apply it, you be gratified to find it works! Her system is great for reducing stress and developing personal and professional communication skills. Invest in yourself and master the Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense as developed by Dr. Elgin. You will be happier, more confident, and healthier by eliminating the stress caused by verbal abuse.

There is without doubt a place of greater skill on the part of employees in managing all those untrained people-managing twits who make life so miserable for so any of us, however I would prefer to read a feedback about this book that does read like an anonymous, unpaid for advertisement for it.
