    Why was Badbossology.com launched?

Survey results indicate that approximately 40% of employees have had to deal with a bad boss. In fact, a Gallup survey of over 1,000,000 employees found that if a company is losing good people, more than any other single reason the cause is their immediate supervisor: "People leave managers not companies... So much money has been thrown at the challenge of keeping good people - in the form of better pay, better perks and better training - when, in the end, turnover is mostly a manager issue."

In view of Badbossology.com's material, it is clear that certain bosses are not giving people the respect, support and dignity that they deserve. (That said, we are not talking about good bosses who are firm and tough, and who have high expectations and refuse to run a "country club.") Our purpose is to help people protect themselves against bad bosses by providing constructive, balanced and pragmatic News and Resources and by providing a discussion forum where they can safely raise questions, discuss issues and get input from others. Badbossology.com is not a showcase for inappropriate or unethical tactics for revenge. It's not a place to make specific comments about bosses or organizations. It's not a site for bitching and whining, and inappropriate humor. It's not for people who won't accept their responsibility to analyze and understand their current situation and to develop a plan to improve it. It should be stressed that Badbossology.com is designed to help protect companies from bad bosses as well. It assists bosses, executives and board members in monitoring key news relevant to the behaviors of bad bosses, their impacts and solutions. Leaders will also find key resources focused on their needs and responsibilities as well as their own discussion forum. Overall, this site can help reduce the costs of bad bosses borne by the people who work for them, their companies and shareholders.

Are there any direct or indirect fees associated with Badbossology.com?

None whatsoever and no fee-based premium user services are available.

Since Badbossology.com is free, what are your planned sources of revenue?

    Is this site for bosses?

It is definitely for bosses, senior executives and boards. All the site's contents are made available to leaders at public-sector organizations and corporations and their shareholders in the spirit of respect . Further, resources have been selected specifically for Bosses, Execs & Boards and will no doubt be improved by content suggestions from bosses themselves, employees and the academic community. We particularly encourage Human Resources executives, in their positions of leverage, to consider these materials in their corporate strategic planning, value setting, performance appraisal planning etc.

What is a Vault, and how it can be used?

Our Vault function is a secure repository for any material that you want to "bookmark" for fast future reference. You can also add your own notes and comments for each stored item. Use is simple because each item has its own Vault link. Clicking on the link opens up the Vault window and the title of the material is already inserted. The list of items in your vault is stored on our server, so your vault is available from wherever you access Badbossology.com. Registration is required in order store items in the vault.

Why should I register and how long does it take?

Registration has several benefits. With your registration not only do you help to build the online community, you receive a secure and confidential identity so you'll also be able to participate in the discussion forums and hear directly back from others in response to your comments, needs and questions while maintaining your confidentiality. Another key reason to register is to use our Vault service which allows you to store all the material that you need along with your own personal notes for quick future reference. So regardless of which computer you are using, by logging into the site with your login name and password, you can access your own secure repository of News and Resource links along with your comments. Registration itself takes just 20 seconds, and only your login name will be visible to other users of the site.

If I register, how secure is my email address?

This site is operated by web and database servers stored securely within an ISO 9001:2000 registered facility. All user-specific information in our databases is encrypted, and the servers themselves are protected from intrusion by monitored firewalls and security lockdown procedures. While we take every reasonable precaution to protect our users' information, we cannot be held liable for any misuse or offence that you may suffer due to your use of this site.

What exactly is RSS, and how do I go about setting it up?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a way to view a summary of the latest content from all your favorite web sites without having to go to each site. An RSS "News Reader" periodically checks your favorite "RSS Feeds" and presents them to you with links to the original articles. Thousands of web sites already syndicate their content via RSS, and more are jumping on the bandwagon every day. There are dozens of different news readers to choose from, or you can use a web based news reader such as BlogLines. You can usually recognize an RSS feed on a web site by a link or small button labelled RSS or XML. For more information on RSS, take a look at Lockergnome's RSS Quickstart Guide.
